Upper Extremity Electromyography During Bouldering: Research Report

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Despite the growing popularity of bouldering, little is known about degree and variabilityof muscle activation that occurs while solving bouldering problems. The purpose this study was to explorethe electromyography eight upper extremity trunk muscles during a session indoor whilecompleting four different problems. Methods: Eleven climbers with self-reported ability climb V-scale V4 problem grade or higher regularlyboulder at least two days/week for six months participated in study. Electromyography used torecord activity flexor digitorum superficialis, extensor carpi radialis longus, biceps brachii, tricepsbrachii, anterior deltoid, middle posterior latissimus dorsi. Conclusion: highest average EMG across all climbs occurred superficialis, latissimus dorsi, brevis. Significant differences were noted betweenthe deltoid superficialis triceps brachii andflexor dorsi. This information may be useful developing strength conditioning program

Upper Extremity Joint Dynamics and Electromyography (emg) during Standard and Geared Manual Wheelchair Propulsion

Wheelchairs are the primary mobility device for individuals having difficulty with ambulatory activities [1]. In the U.S. it is estimated that 3.3 million people used a wheelchair in 2010 [2], of which 90% used manual wheelchairs (MWs) [3]. However, MWs often lead to reduced independent function and quality of life [4]. Furthermore, shoulder pain and injuries are commonly associated with MW pro...

The effect of upper extremity support on upper extremity posture and muscle activity during keyboard use.

Forearm support during keyboard use has been reported to reduce neck and shoulder muscle activity and discomfort. However, the effect of forearm support on wrist posture has not been examined. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of 3 different postures during keyboard use: forearm support, wrist support and "floating". The floating posture (no support) was used as the reference cond...

Power Augmentation of Upper Extremity by Using Agonist Electromyography Signals Only for Extended Admittance Control

In this study, we extended the conventional admittance control and developed a new power augmentation technology that supports the upper extremity movements of humans using only the electromyography (EMG) signals of agonists. First, we selected the EMG signals of two agonists, the biceps brachii and clavicular part of the deltoid, to control the elbow and shoulder joints, respectively. We then ...

An electromyography study of wrist extension orthoses and upper-extremity function.

OBJECTIVE This study examined the effect of commonly used long and short styles of commercially produced wrist extension orthoses on the activity of the proximal muscles of the shoulder and elbow and on wrist flexor and extensor muscle activity. METHOD While 17 women between 22 and 40 years of age (M = 26.6) performed a specified movement wearing each of the two styles of orthosis and without...

Implementation of a Surface Electromyography-Based Upper Extremity Exoskeleton Controller Using Learning from Demonstration

Upper-extremity exoskeletons have demonstrated potential as augmentative, assistive, and rehabilitative devices. Typical control of upper-extremity exoskeletons have relied on switches, force/torque sensors, and surface electromyography (sEMG), but these systems are usually reactionary, and/or rely on entirely hand-tuned parameters. sEMG-based systems may be able to provide anticipatory control...
